The SUEZ North America Foundation: Giving for Good
Since 2009, it has been the mission of the SUEZ North America Foundation to improve the communities we serve and explore ways to advance innovation. We want to inspire environmental sustainability through eco-friendly focused policies, programs, and projects. As a part of a leading environmental services company, we have the privilege to connect people with a passion for a better world, and those working every day to make a difference. As stewards of the environment, our primary goal is to champion innovative programs that support sustainable communities.
Since 2009 the SUEZ North America Foundation has distributed $5 million in grants, supported over 200 organizations and over 50% dedicated grants to environmental organizations.
Projects We Support
The SUEZ North America Foundation investments have supported the following programs:
Operation SPLASH, a non-profit based in Freeport, NY, whose volunteers spend thousands of hours each year cleaning local waterways, educating the public about the plight of the bays from Washington, DC to Albany, NY. The SUEZ North America Foundation has been a partner of Operation SPLASH since 2012.
World is our Classroom
For more than 17 years, World Is Our Classroom Inc., a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization, has partnered with urban school systems, area institutions of higher education and businesses to develop and implement some of the most innovative, non-traditional classroom programs in the Gateway Cities located in the Pioneer Valley. World Is Our Classroom is focused on providing students and their teachers with programs that emphasize real-world contexts and content, hands-on learning environments and experiences and contact with professionals in the areas of science, technology, engineering, mathematics and manufacturing (STEMM). We want to give children meaningful educational experiences and help them find rewarding and fulfilling career paths.
SUEZ Leadership Institute for Environmental Studies at St. Thomas Aquinas College
The SUEZ Leadership Institute for Environmental Studies at St. Thomas Aquinas College is a week-long program for rising high school seniors and college freshmen and sophomores to experience an in-depth program curriculum studying water, the environment, energy, climate change and sustainability. The Institute promotes awareness of global environmental issues and provides students an understanding of how local environmental issues reflect greater environmental challenges. Students engage in environmental inquiry and action through critical thinking and scientific methods and seek solutions to challenges facing the environment.
Wine to Water
Wine To Water is a non-profit organization committed to supporting life and dignity for all through the power of clean water. The organization was founded by Doc Hendley in 2007. Wine To Water is based in Boone, North Carolina, and has clean water projects running in multiple international locations. Wine To Water has received a great deal of media attention on the local, national, and international levels. Doc Hendley was selected by CNN as a top ten finalist for the 2012 CNN Heroes. As of 2009, Wine To Water had implemented sustainable drinking water initiatives to over 25,000 individuals. By October 2014, Wine To Water had expanding to include projects in 18 countries on four continents, supplying clean water to over 300,000 individuals. SUEZ North America Foundation has supported Wine to Water in its efforts to deliver clean water since 2011.
Imagine H2O is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering people to deploy and develop innovation to solve water challenges globally. The organization’s flagship water innovation accelerator provides entrepreneurs with the resources, insight and visibility to launch and scale water solutions. By partnering with industry and policy experts and a global network of customers and investors, Imagine H2O has become a proven path to market for promising water startups. The SUEZ North America Foundation has supported Imagine H2O programs since 2011.
Jersey City Bike Share
The SUEZ North America Foundation and Jersey City Bike Share partnered to provide a new transportation system to Jersey City, NJ – one that is environmentally friendly, affordable and healthy. A bike sharing system consists of a fleet of specially designed, sturdy, very durable bikes that are locked into a network of docking stations sited at regular intervals around the city. The bikes can be rented from and then returned to any combination of departure and arrival. Jersey City has all of the elements needed for a successful bike share system, including high residential density, vibrant commercial corridors, great transit connectivity and growing bike infrastructure.
The Foundation also has supported disaster relief for the California Camp Fire Relief Fund and the Houston, TX Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund.
No one is immune to unexpected financial hardship. Situations like the loss of a job or a debilitating illness or injury can make it difficult for individuals to meet basic, day-to-day living expenses. When such crises occur, SUEZ North America steps in to help.
