My Local SUEZ Projects

The Past & Future of Westchester's Water

About 200,000 people throughout Westchester County depend on SUEZ for clean, safe water. The company was originally formed in 1885 to supply water to the city of New Rochelle. Today we serve customers in several communities through two distinct water systems.

Rate District 1 serves customers in New Rochelle, Rye and Rye Brook; the villages of Bronxville, Tuckahoe, North Pelham, Pelham, Pelham Manor, Ardsley, Hastings on Hudson and Dobbs Ferry.

The supply source for District 1 is surface water that is purchased from the New York City Department of Environmental Protection. The sources of New York City that we utilize include the Catskill and Delaware aqueducts.

In District 1 the company manages over 400 miles of water mains, more than 3,200 fire hydrants and, on average, delivers 18.5 million gallons of water a day for use by households, business and firefighting.

Rate District 2 serves customers in the city of Rye and the villages of Rye Brook and Port Chester.

There are two sources of supply for customers in District 2. Sixty-five percent is purchased filtered water from Aquarion Water Company of Connecticut. The source is from Putnam Reservoir located in Greenwich, Connecticut. The remaining thirty-five percent of supply is purchased from Westchester Join Water Works which is obtained from the upstate Catskill and Delaware watersheds of the New York City system.

In District 2 the company manages over 225 miles of water mains, more than 1,000 fire hydrants and, on average, delivers 7.5 million gallons of water a day for use by households, businesses and firefighting.
